Kaitlin Wightman-Ausman, MT-BC, RBT
I am a Board Certified music therapist that has a passion for working in mental health. I graduated from Appalachian State University and received my credentials from the Certification Board of Music Therapy in 2017. I completed my internship at Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia, South Carolina with training in working with adults and adolescents dealing with emotional disorders, substance abuse, and reality orientation.
Music has a unique impact on humans. Where sometimes it can be challenging to find the words to express how one is feeling, that feeling can be expressed more clearly through music. Music therapy is an evidence-based practice that uses the relationship between the therapist, the client, and the music to facilitate change. I work to create a safe, open space where you can express yourself without fear of judgement or criticism. I address coping skills, goal setting, behavior change, self confidence, and other goals unique to the client’s needs through musical experiences such as song writing, lyric analysis, musical games, and improvisation.
I believe that all humans have the capacity for growth and wellness. I am dedicated to the process of encouraging and bearing witness to each client’s personal journey. It would be an honor and a privilege to support you through yours.
